  • Spelman Jumps From No. 7 to No. 4 in the Peace Corps' List of Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities

    ATLANTA (Feb. 21, 2018) – Today, the Peace Corps announced that Spelman College tied for No. 4 among small schools on the agency’s 2018 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list. There are 14 Spelman alumnae currently volunteering worldwide.

  • Spelman Receives $2 Million Gift From the Karsh Family Foundation to Support KIPP Schools Graduates' Success in College

    ATLANTA (February 15, 2018) - Spelman College is pleased to announce a $2 million gift from the Karsh Family Foundation. The gift will fund annual and endowed scholarships that support graduates of the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) schools, a nationwide network of open enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools. Spelman is grateful for the consistent support of Bruce and Martha Karsh, whose first gift to Spelman was in 2012.

  • RCE Greater Atlanta Officially Acknowledged by the United Nations University

    ATLANTA (February 15, 2018) -- The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) has officially acknowledged a new regional sustainability network, RCE Greater Atlanta. RCEs are Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development. The designation makes Atlanta one of only six Regional Centres of Expertise in the U.S.

  • Spelman Receives Gift From the Estate of Alison R. Bernstein to Support Preservation of Black Feminist Papers

    ATLANTA – January 24, 2018 – Spelman College is excited to announce a $10,000 gift from the Alison R. Bernstein Estate to the Women’s Research and Resource Center. The generous contribution will be used to reformat audio-visual materials from the Audre Lorde and Toni Cade Bambara papers in the Spelman College Archives, which is a component of the Women's Center. The papers of these two iconic Black feminist writers are the most heavily used collections in the Archives.

  • Spelman Receives $5 Million Gift Funding Seth and Beth Klarman Scholarship

    ATLANTA (January 22, 2018) –Spelman College is excited to announce a $5 million gift from Seth and Beth Klarman of Boston. The gift will fund scholarships for current and incoming Spelman students. Spelman is a leading liberal arts college dedicated to academic excellence and the education of Black women through intellectual, creative, ethical and leadership development. The Klarmans’ $5 million gift will extend opportunities to more Spelman scholars to become models of academic excellence and agents for positive change in the world.

  • Spelman College Students Receive Scholarships for Their Contributions to the LGBTQ Community

    Two Spelman College students are the first recipients of the Dr. Levi Watkins Jr., Scholarship. Sophomores Chablise Davis and Cylantra Dees will each receive renewable $25,000 scholarships. The self-identified LGBTQ advocates were selected because of their academic achievements and their ability to emerge as courageous leaders at Spelman and in the LGBTQ community.

  • Experience Musical Magic at the 91st Annual Spelman-Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert

    ATLANTA (November 29, 2017) —This weekend, the 91st Annual Spelman-Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert, a tradition that has marked the opening of the Christmas season for generations of Atlanta residents, will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3 at Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel and Spelman College’s Sisters Chapel.

  • Southeast Debut of New Work by Deborah Roberts at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art Opens January 2018

    ATLANTA (November 29, 2017) – Deborah Roberts creates visually arresting collages that encourage important conversations about girlhood, vulnerability, body image, popular culture, self-image, and the dysfunctional legacy of colorism. Combining found photographs, painting, and drawing, she examines the weight that society places on Black girls. “Deborah Roberts: The Evolution of Mimi,” an original exhibition organized by the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, features more than 50 collages, paintings, and hand-painted serigraphs.
